Acromyrmex versicolor

2019 Queen with fungus
(some early pictures are of a 2018 queen, 2019 wild caught worker)

1. Location (on a map) of collection: Tucson, AZ, southern foothills of Santa Catalina Mountains
2. Collections:
Date of mated Queen collection August 11, 2019 day after heavy rain grabbed as she was digging founding next
3. Habitat of collection: Sonoran Desert, 2400ft, foothills of Santa Catalina Mountains, mesquite trees and cactus
4. Length (from head to gaster): workers 8 mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Queens Dark red and spiky
6. Distinguishing characteristics:
7. Distinguishing behavior: Fungus Farmers
8. Nest description: Nests have round ring small pebbles, you can see yellow debris
9. Nuptial flight time and date: August 11, 2019 10AM morning after very heavy rain, founding nest in soft fine dirt in shade of a tree
10. Fungus success included some soil from under tree of collection
