I accidentally found one of these guys when I was catching Pogonomyrmex. I literally found this queen 4 houses down. I thought that I would have to go far distances to catch one of these.

I hate to break it to you but I think that might be novomessor cockerelli. A very cool species nonetheless.

How're they doing?
Update 10-28-19
I got a colony of these from Nurb last week. They have about 23-25 workers. My other Veromessor that I caught has 3 workers. I will be putting them up for sale. Go to my shop page to see.

There is a important time for everything, important place for everyone, an important person for everybody, and an important ant for each and every ant keeper and myrmecologist alike
Update 5-11-20
These guys have around 25-30 workers. It's hard to count these guys. I moved them into a Nurbs V2 formicarium because they are getting hard to manage in a pencil case formicarium. They have a ton of brood with them. I couldn't get that good of a photo of them.
Update 7-5-20
These guys have around 40-50 workers. It seems they get a worker a day and they have a lot of eggs of each stage. I can't get a good picture of them because they are in the up against the cotton in a small chamber they dug out. These guys are doing very well.
Any advice on these. Just found some queens.
Veromessor pergandei
Veromessor andrei
Crematogaster sp.
Pogonomyrmex cf cali and rugosus
Various Pheidole
C. yogi
Any advice on these. Just found some queens.
These guys don't drink sugar water like other ants. Give them fruits as their sugars. They are pretty fast growing. Also these guys love heat so heat them every morning.
Update 9-20-20
These guys have around 65-70 workers. Their daily pupae hatching has stopped but they still have a few pupae that will hatch every week or so. They lost their entire first generation because I see around 20-30 in the dead pile. They will most likely end the year with 70-80 workers.
Update 11-4-20
These guys have proven me wrong in colony size. The queen laid so many eggs after my last update and now they are all hatching into nanitics. They are at 90+ workers now and still have around 5-10 pupae that still need to hatch. They also have a good amount of larvae on them. Its hard to get see much that goes on in their tube because all of the workers clump in the back of the tube. Most likely they will end the year with around 100-120 workers.
