On the 30th I caught this queen at Whitney Canyon Park at like 9:00 or something. At first I thought it was a salsabean but people were telling me it was Vicinus. I'll upload better photos to see weather or not this is Vicinus

Nurbs gave me 2 more of these queens so I have 3 now.

One of the queens got their first pupa. The other queens have a larvae or 2. I should be getting my first Vicinus worker in a few days.

UPDATE: 5/28/19

Yesterday this colony got their first worker. The ones that Nurbs gave me are doing well to, they have lots of brood that is going to hatch in a week or two. I plan on moving the colony with the worker inside my pencil case formicarium. my other Vicinus I plan on moving into one of Drew's formicarium that I have lying around.

Update 7-10-19

These guys were doing good a month ago. They had as many as 3 workers. Now somehow the workers all died except for 1. The colony that I caught has 3 workers and is nesting in one of Nurbs' pencil case formicariums. 1 worker has recently died though

Have you fed them honey or sugar? In my experience Camponotus colonies will collapse shortly after having nanitics if not fed honey.

The queen you found at Whitney Canyon looks exactly like the one I caught about 100 miles north, but in very similar habitat. The only difference is that I caught mine in mid August.  I even found a beheaded one under a similar stone near the one she was under.   Do you know the temperature on the night during which you collected her?

I think it was about 75-80 degrees

At night?  Or during the day? 75-80 seems rather high.

Update 6-15-20

I got 6 of these guys in a trade for Pogonomyrmex Californicus. 3 of them were the all black kind and 3 were orange and black. I moved one of them into my Drew formicarium that I had. All of these queens have pupae and other eggs. They should have workers within a week or 2. I'm going to put a black and orange one for sale when they all get workers so look on my shop within the next few weeks.

Update 6-29-20

Just recently all of these guys got workers. The 3 of them have 3 workers. I will be moving the ones I will not be selling into Pencil cases. So far so good. They should get more workers throughout the next few days.

Hey, as somebody new to keeping C. Vicinus, I need advise on how to keep them. Can you give some tips, I literally have no idea how to care for them.

You care for them like any other Camponotus species. They're honestly the easiest Camponotus species to raise.

Update 7-14-20

​I received 3 more of these from Nurbs Saturday. He gave them to me because they were doing as good as most should do this year. They have little to no eggs. Hopefully I can get a colony from these. As for the other ones, they are doing very well. 2 of them have 6 workers and the least a colony has is 3. I have 2 of these in my shop for those who want them.

These guys all have between 6-12 workers. All doing pretty decent.

What are your plans for hibernation? I have a vicinus colony from the Julian area and I'm trying to figure out if they need to hibernate.
